I suppose...

...if people will have any interest in reading, I'll also have to get something new and exciting up here each day. I have posted my email address also so if someone has a topic I'm game...

Experimented in remote blogging...

...but it just sends drafts so I'm just going to start fresh. The wedding was lovely, but I always feel a little self concious since no matter what I'm wearing I am the most exposed skin.

Anyway, I have ecclectic interests and if I was better at biology than calculus I would likely have wound up in entymology. I frequent the site What's That Bug? a lot (http://www.whatsthatbug.com/). I actually have gotten a few of my comments and pictures posted which is kind of fun. I highly recommend perusing it periodically, talk about diversity.

I worked a long day today so my thoughts are a little scattered.

Red shoes...

Yes, red shoes, I am convinced that it is practically impossible to have too many red shoes. I have searched for them on three continents (not travelling to seek the shoes clearly). I don't have THAT many, I am an engineer and thusly terrible practical. They can't be shiny or physically uncomfortable.

Well, those are my thoughts today...oh, cosmic conciousness.

That, and the answer is still 42.

Sunday Sunday...

Today I am going to a wedding. It is for a friend of mine who is first generation (her parents lived here for a time but have since moved back) so her family's events are always interesting as many of the people attending are visitors to the US.

I find it interesting on the level that there are many cultural aspects in the general sense (including that nothing ever starts "on time") that can sometimes be awkward but also kind of make you feel like a kid again. Also, her religious faith is different than mine and so there are a whole slew of customs that go with it (including the separation of men and women at the ceremony) that I have never had the opportunity to be a part of first hand. And, I am of very diverse combinations of ethnicities myself but "fit in" by appearances (read - I am not blond) so many of the women in attendance assume that I speak their language and will start conversing with me until they notice the deer in headlights look as I try to indicate that I don't understand. I attended the bridal shower last weekend and that was a blast!

As I mentioned, everything interests me and particularly events like this that I find many of my peers and family are very dismissive of. I have never understood how we can stand and say they are wrong for forcing men and women to be separated at an event, etc. It's just a different way of doing things. None of these women are shrinking flowers, by any stretch of the imagination.

At any rate - deep thought of the day - stop ethnocentrism.

You say today is Saturday...

...good bye, I'm going out to play.

What is play? I've often been told that I am not relaxed, when I am (by my standard) relaxing. That I make work out of leisure even.

I think that everyone's idea is different. As I have mentioned, everything interests me. That is not an overstatement. That's probably got quite a lot to do with my multiple degree program changes and why I continued to take art and design (and ethnic studies and philosophy, etc., etc.) classes even when I settled into engineering.

It has always struck me as ironic that art and engineering always seem to view the other as an opposing faction. The creativity and ability to visualize each requires seems to make them clearly intertwined. One of the best artists I know is a retired computer programmer.

Well, I guess that is my deep thought of the day - engineers and artists - get over yourselves.

There's a First Time for Everything

Have you ever wondered why people blog?

There is the touch of ego - yes, of course, everyone cares about what I think and what I do and who I am is truly interesting. The venting - ugh, somewhere out in the abyss someone is hearing that I had a crappy day. And the sharing - I found this cool thing and everyone must know about it! The desire for discourse - somebody please talk to me!

So why am I blogging...

I'm not quite sure what I expect or what will come of it but I have journaled for years and perhaps I'm looking for something that requires a little less tree killing...

Anyhow...this is the beginning...
